First scan 💛
We had our first scan on 1st May and this is where our World got turned upside down!!
So I got to my appointment feeling nervous but excited to see my little wiggle bum on the screen. Again I was alone as Timmy still wasn't allowed to come!
I got called in and got ready for the scan the technician put the machine on my belly and there was my sweet baby wiggling around even waving. Baby was very active and wouldn't get into the right position to be checked so I had to do a lot of wriggling! I noticed around baby there was like a shadow which I didn't have on my scans with Oscar. Then the technician told me baby had some fluid around it and the neck was measuring 9mm where it should be no more than 3 (but didn't know if this was due to the extra fluid) she also mentioned it could be a cystic hygroma but said she's known for these to resolve on there on in utero! She also mentioned that if it was a girl there would be a chance she would have Turners syndrome.
I then had to wait to be seen by the doctor and have the blood test for any chromosone defects which is the most common cause for cystic hygromas!
The blood test was a disaster as they couldn't get any (my whole elbow area ended up blue with a lump on it 🤦🏼♀️)
Next was the doctor who have me a leaflet on hygromas and told me to go on the GOSH website and Tommy's for advice on it and Leeds General Fetal Medicine Team would be in touch for a scan and maybe more tests.
I left the hospital and had to ring Timmy to tell him the outcome of the scan which was one of the hardest phonecalls I've ever had to make! Getting home was a blur (till the taxi broke down and I had to walk rest of the way... Just my luck)
